We have all of this info, but what we really need is volunteers for
-counselers
-cooks

We chose this theme because it ties toghether the two main ideas of MAYF, God and Sports.

I am emailing Mr. Jackie to tell him the theme we decided on.

Everyone needs to fill out a registration sheet

Next Week we will
Look at everything posted on the blog and consider

Ideas for classes and/or topics

January 23rd, 2008

From Richard and Lenora Pong

The theme suggests a two step process: training for a goal & receiving a reward. There is also the sports analogy. For understanding we look at the parts. To succeed we put all (or some) of the parts together.

CHOSEN

Athletes are chosen to play for a team, often with a large salary.

Christians are also chosen.

Christians

<!–[if !supportLists]–>· <!–[endif]–>Our coach is the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Christ, living in us, an ever present guide. 1 Cor 3:16, 1 Cor 6:19, 2 Cor 6:16

PRACTICE

Athletes: practice their skills individually and as a team, looking to their coaches for guidance. They study their opponents. Every member of the team is valued even if they are third or fourth string bench warmers. There are occasions when they too are called into service.

<!–[if !supportLists]–>· <!–[endif]–>Know your opponent and the playing field – Eph. 6:11-12

5 CROWNS

Athletes labor for a crown that is temporal. Memories are forgotten.

Christians can look forward to everlasting crowns:

<!–[if !supportLists]–>· <!–[endif]–>Incorruptible crown; deny self; stewardship -1 Cor. 9:25

<!–[if !supportLists]–>· <!–[endif]–>crown of hope & joy & salvation - 1 Thess. 2:19, Phil. 4:1 those whom you have a part in bringing to salvation will be your crown of joy.

<!–[if !supportLists]–>· <!–[endif]–>crown of glory; for pastors who care for others – and are an example to us. 1Pet. 5:1-4. Wisdom presents you with a crown of glory (Prov. 4:7-9)

<!–[if !supportLists]–>· <!–[endif]–>crown of righteousness - 2 Tim. 4:8 for fighting the good fight, finishing the race, keeping the faith

REWARD OR LOSS

<!–[if !supportLists]–>· <!–[endif]–>Our Inheritance will never spoil, perish, or fade: 1 Pet. 1:3-5

<!–[if !supportLists]–>· <!–[endif]–>Our work will be tested by fire. If it survives fire, we receive a reward. If our work burns up, we will suffer loss, but we will be saved as one escaping through the flames. 1 Cor. 3:10-17

WHEN WE FAIL

Athletes pick themselves up and go on. They think about their mistakes and learn from them. They make efforts to correct their mistakes. They look ahead and don’t dwell on their failures. A good coach and team will be supportive.

Christians admit their sins, failures, and go on, holding on to the hand of a loving God.

<!–[if !supportLists]–>· <!–[endif]–>Godly sorrow, repentance. 2 Cor. 7:10; Judas versus Peter (Matt. 27:3-5, John 21:15-17)

<!–[if !supportLists]–>§ <!–[endif]–>God will never leave or forsake us –Heb. 13:5, Matt. 28:18-20

Glory in Competition

January 19th, 2008

For years a big part of our MAYF has been the recreational activities… I think with the topic Glory in Competition we will be able to show how we can glorify God through those activities… I like Lauren’s idea of the four groups but I’m not sure we will have enough to divide ourselves into that many groups… Maybe two and have half the girls with half the guys and come up with activities to compete and win maybe a cup or something at the end.

With the topic Glory in Competition we can have the following classes:

1) Being persistant and working hard.

2) The feeling of accomplishment

3) Recovery from failure

4) God wants you to succeed.

Each of these classes can be backed up by scripture and should be fairly easy for the teachers to come up with lessons that follow the theme. The main verse for the topic could be 1 Corinthians 9:24 “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.”

In the verses surrounding verse 24 in chapter 9 they go in greater detail about what it takes to compete for Christ and the glory of it.

-Clark “Superman” Harris

hey its lauren

January 15th, 2008

um just an idea for the winning for christ or the competition, if we were to have this theme, we could split the camp into 4 colored teams and have like a couple major recreation events competing against eachother. and for the t-shirts  each team could decorate their team colored shirt. almost like a color war but a more positve term.

think about it

Sorry

January 15th, 2008

I have no idea about how to comment, if you figure it out, please post the solution. Im, trying to figure it out. For now, just post your thoughts please.  I agree with Laurens idea, i think even if we don’t do Winning for Christ we should still do team games like that.

Finding Forever

January 14th, 2008

Hey. It’s Romeo and here is my description of Finding Forever:

The topic is a bit abstract. The theme is designed to motivate people to be committed Christians. When we are baptized, we’re living towards a life with God. This doesn’t end after the baptism, it continues in our spirit until we die. We dedicate our limited time with the Lord so that we may be along side him for eternity. Throughout our life, we need to live the life God wants us to live, his son being the best example. Jesus died, but did not cease to exist. His word lives in the hearts of his followers and continues to spread, remaining forever.

Class Suggestions(Names are subject to change)

- Forever & A Day (being committed)
In a world where we can quit, we need to withstand troubles and continue.
- (Path of Righteousness)
Follow the example of others, mainly Christ, to live a life that glorifies God in all aspects.
- Remembering the Forever
Even though something may be gone, doesn’t mean it ceases to exist.
- The End Result
After living a life devoted to God, we will spend eternity with God in his glory.

Publicity & Registration

January 14th, 2008

Email to churches sent on Sunday Jan. 13 included the following:

1 - a “generic” SAVE THE DATE flyer with pertinent information

2- teen registration form

3- chaperone registration form

There are about 32 other churches that receive only postal mail. We can send info out with the Area Calendars on Feb. 1st if the team doesn’t mind waiting. Keep in mind it is $0.41 per envelope.

I have also updated Registrations forms for Silver Spring Teens, Chaperones, and Guests. Two copies of each are in the foyer next to a little basket. More copies can be made once the team approves.

One additional theme was discussed at the meeting: Finding Forever (being committed to being a Christian) by Romeo Portillo.
